Giving Back

Supporting our communities is one of Lake View Credit Union’s core values.  This support can be seen in many ways:

  • sponsorship of important community events (Fall Fair, Grizfest, Chainsaw Carving Championships etc.)
  • patrons of community projects (DC & District Hospital Foundation Maternity Makeover etc.)
  • financial assistance to community groups (sports teams, library programs etc.)
  • donating prizes and promotional items to special events
  • staff and management event participants (Big Bike Ride, Walk for Cancer, Christmas Stocking, etc.)
  • Volunteer hours
  • Bursaries

Bursaries

At Lake View Credit Union, we strongly believe in the value of continuing education.  We have recently made enhancements to the program, which we believe makes them significantly more valuable to recipients.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Recently, LVCU’s Corporate Social Committee undertook a mandate review and attended sponsorship workshops.  What we took away from this valuable process is a real understanding of how community support needs to be structured, in order to make a measurable and sustainable difference.  We came to understand that in order to make a real difference, we would need to focus on establishing true PARTNERSHIPS with community organizations and events that fit with the values and vision of our credit union.

After careful consideration, we have defined our future partnerships to be those providing opportunities for learning (lifelong from babies to seniors) and for development of opportunities for youth (education, employment, personal development etc.) These projects will be of significant size and investment and will be structured as multi-year support projects.  Our existing partnerships in Dawson Creek include the Lake View Learning Centre (Dawson Creek Literacy Society), Re-Connect (SPCRS) and BUGS (Bringing Up Grades Sensibly).  We are interested in replicating these types of projects in Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge as well.

All three of our branches (Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge) will also have a discretionary budget for support of events, projects or organizations.  Along with this, there may be support available in the form of prizes and promotional products for giveaways.

Our Criteria

Regardless of the type or amount of support being sought, the following basic criteria must be met:

  • Organization or group requesting assistance must be members in good standing at Lake View Credit Union;
  • Organization or group must be registered charities (rare exceptions may be granted);
  • Events must take place in one of our three communities and participation opportunities must be available for local residents;
  • Events or groups must not be political or socially offensive;
  • Groups, organizations or events must be willing to provide a short report at the conclusion of the event, including pictures; and
  • Any promotional material must include acknowledgment of LVCU’s support.

How to Apply:

Print the Application Package and read through the funding criteria to see where your request fits.  Then complete the appropriate application and a cover letter that explains in brief what you are looking for and contact information so we can reach you, and submit it in person to your closest branch of Lake View Credit Union.
